The Floyd County Board of Education named its next superintendent on Tuesday.
By a 4-1 vote, the board approved the hiring of Danny Adkins as its new superintendent. Adkins currently serves as the personnel director for the Pike County School District.
Beginning July 1st, he will take the reins of Floyd County Schools, succeeding Dr. Henry Webb, who left the school district last year. Steve Trimble has served as interim superintendent since Webb left the district.
Adkins, who served in the Pike County School District for 23 years, said his experience in numerous positions within the Pike County Schools has prepared him for the superintendent’s position in Floyd County. He called Floyd County Schools “elite” because of its recent academic success.
Adkins said his tenure could begin at Floyd County Schools sooner than July 1, but for whatever his start date is, he’s ready to go to work for the students and staff in Floyd County.
