MARTIN COUNTY, KY.– Three men attempting to repossess a car in Martin County last night came away empty-handed … and one nearly lost a portion of his hand. Sheriff John Kirk says the men arrived at the home of the car’s owner and informed her that they were there to repossess the car. She went to inform her boyfriend of the news. When he came outside, he allegedly confronted the men, and that’s when things took a drastic turn.
“According to the repo guys he became very belligerent, kicked the door and actually tried to stab one of the repo guys with a knife. When he threw up his left hand to try to stop it, it cut his pinky on his left hand nearly halfway off. “
When Kirk and a deputy arrived at the scene, they arrested 61-year-old Ralph Maynard, of Inez, following a brief standoff. Maynard is charged with second-degree assault, a felony that carries a prison sentence of 5-to-10 years. Sheriff Kirk says the repo men had keys could have simply taken the car, but they were punished for trying to be nice.
