A death investigation is underway after a Knott County woman is found in a Perry County field.

Kentucky State Police say 30-year-old April N. Higgins of Sassafras was found Tuesday in a grassy field off Highway 476, near the Bulan Post Office.

Higgins was transported to the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by the Perry County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy was performed today at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. Kentucky State Police is in charge of the investigation.
