HAZARD, Ky. — EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, speaking at Whayne Supply, formally announce decision to rescind Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan.
The Clean Power Plan was an effort to curb carbon dioxide emissions at power plants by 32 percent from 2005 levels. That goal was to be met by increased through energy conservation and relying more heavily on electricity generated by renewable sources, as well as reducing emissions from coal-burning plants.
The plan has been widely panned in Appalachia, as it was seen as an effort to kill the coal industry. The plan fell under the crosshairs of President Donald Trump, who called it a “job-killing regulation.”
