Bridge work to begin in Pike County

PIKE COUNTY (April 6, 2020) – Construction starts this week on a new bridge over Big Creek at Pigeonroost Road just off Ky. 3220 near Canada in Pike County.

According to Vince Hayes, Highway District 12 section engineer, this is a replacement of the old bridge and construction of a new box beam bridge.

“The first thing that will be done this week is that a detour will be built for traffic to pass through and access Ky. 3220,” Hayes said.

The project should last about four months if the weather cooperates. Locals will always have a way in and out but should heed caution when traveling through the area at all times.

This is part of a nine-bridge Bridging Kentucky contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as a joint venture to Hayden Bridge Company of Springfield and Bush & Burchett of Allen. The contract includes two bridges in Pike County (Pigeonroost and Caney Highway), three in Letcher County (Ky. 343 over Wright Fork, Ky. 805 over Potters Fork,  and CR 1225, Georges Branch Road over Cowan Creek), one in Knott County (CR 1130, Collins Branch Road over Carr Fork), and one each in Breathitt, Magoffin, and Powell counties.

The total amount of the nine-bridge contract is $5,451,419.10.
