Check Fraud Arrest

Mingo County, WV — West Virginia State Police have arrested a Mingo County man on fraudulent check fraud. Troopers arrested 44-year-old David Brian Blankenship of Gilbert on a criminal complaint. Authorities say Blankenship cashed more than $132,000 in fraudulent checks from his employer, A-1 Fencing, Incorporated. Troopers were contacted by the owner of A-1 Fencing stating he had discovered numerous unauthorized transactions on his business account. Blankenship was employed as a foreman at the business and had been writing unauthorized checks on multiple company checkbooks to himself. Authorities say the incidents occurred between March 2018 and March of this year. Blankenship is charged with grand larceny, forgery, fraudulent use of an access device. Blankenship is currently being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash only bail.
