WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal spending bill signed into law earlier this month will mean new homes for some of those who lost their in the 2022 floods.
U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers announced Tuesday that Housing Development Alliance will receive $3 million to help build homes for flood victims. Those homes will then be sold for appraised value to the flood victims, who will be able to finance them through forgivable loans and grants.
In addition to the housing money, Rogers also announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will receive a $500,000 grant to conduct a flood mitigation study on their entire Kentucky River watershed.
Nearly 9,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed by the millennial flood which swept through Eastern Kentucky in July of 2022.
