Cumberland spoils UPIKE late rally

BOWLING GREEN – The University of Pikeville was six outs away from rallying past Cumberland (Tenn.) in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament played Thursday.

UPIKE, which fell to 26-22 and into the loser’s bracket round today, saw an 9-6 lead get away as CU pushed across six runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning to score a 12-9 win.

Shortstop Matt Peterson had three hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bears. First baseman Nelson Muniz had one hit and scored while knocking in two runs. Designated hitter Jay Vincent collected three hits and scored a pair of runs.
