E. Kentucky counties receive grants to clean up illegal dumps

Several Eastern Kentucky counties are among 21 to receive grants to clean up illegal dumps.

The Associated Press is reporting that Pike, Lawrence, Johnson, Magoffin, Leslie and Breathitt counties received grants from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet to help clean up 121 sites across 21 counties. Counties receiving grants must provide a 25 percent match to receive the funding, which is provided through an environmental fee on garbage dropped at municipal landfills.

Other counties receiving grants, which vary in value, are Butler, Calloway, Estill, Green, Hart, Green, Hart, Henderson, Lee, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mercer, Metcalfe, Warren and Wolfe counties.
