FEMA will begin assessing the effects of heavy rains and flooding in Eastern Kentucky last week. The agency is sending a team to Eastern Kentucky today. Four more will join the effort next week. FEMA is only tallying damages to public property, such as roads, bridges and public buildings. 17 counties will be subject to the inspections. They include Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Letcher, Leslie, Lawrence, Magoffin, Metcalfe, Perry, Pike and Whitley Counties.
