Final defendant in alleged carjacking ring appears in court

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The final defendant in an accused carjacking ring has been arrested.
Brandi Hurt, 27, of Bonnyman, appeared in U.S. District Court in Pikeville, where she pleaded not guilty to one count of carjacking.

Hurt is charged alongside Christopher Adam Cole, 33, of Littcarr, and Angela Vanover, 48, of Hazard.

Cole is described as the ringleader of the operation, accused of stealing cars at gunpoint in Hazard on two occasions. Hurt is accused of helping on one occasion and Vanover is accused of helping on the other.

Hurt and Vanover are each charged with one count of carjacking.

Cole is accused of two counts of carjacking, along with two counts of felon in possession of a firearm and one count of using a firearm in a violent crime.

All three are scheduled to go on trial August 2.
