Charleston, WV — A former superintendent of the Logan County school system was sentenced Friday to more than three years in prison and ordered to pay more than $25,000 in restitution in a fraud and theft investigation. Phyllis Doty was sentenced to 42 months in prison in U.S. District Court in Charleston. In August 2018, Doty was found guilty of eight felony charges, including four counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft from a program receiving federal funds, one count of mail fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. Doty, who retired from Logan County Schools in 2016, stole more than $12,000 in electronic devices purchased by the Logan County Board of Education and used public funds to decorate and supply her son’s August 2015 wedding. Doty had faced the possibility of up to 122 years in prison when she was sentenced.
