PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A former preacher from Wheelwright pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge during a hearing last week in U.S. District Court in Pikeville.

David Glenn Boyd, 53, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of distributing child pornography. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, but Boyd will likely receive less in exchange for his guilty plea. The minimum sentence is five years.

In court, he admitted to having a laptop with 42 pictures and 35 videos showing child pornography. Some of the children depicted were under 12 years old. He told police he generally accessed the material when his wife was out of town.

The federal charges came after a Floyd County grand jury indicted Boyd March 7 on a charge of first-degree distributing a matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. He has pleaded not guilty to that charge.

A Wheelwright native, Boyd served as pastor of Wheelwright Baptist Church from 2012 until January of this year. He also helped found the Wheelwright Youth Fellowship Center in 1998.

He will be back in court March 13 for sentencing.
