CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Williamson Mayor Charles Hatfield is expected to enter a guilty plea this afternoon to federal charges related to embezzlement.
Hatfield was charged late last month with one count of converting to own use property of another. The charge stems from 2018 and 2019, when Hatfield served as CEO of Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He is accused of taking nearly $35,000 from the hospital and using the money for his own use and that of his company, Mid Mountain Properties. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Hatfield resigned as mayor earlier this month.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia has announced that Hatfield is expected to plead guilty this afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m.
