DELBARTON, W.Va. — The 4th Annual Scott Poole’s Trail Run was hosted at the Hatfield McCoy Trail Head in Delbarton over the weekend.
The event is held in memory of Scott Poole, 30, of Williamson, who passed away nearly four years ago.
Poole was actively involved in numerous community organizations. His favorite things to do were to run or hike the Hatfield and McCoy Trails with his dog Layla and ride dirt bikes with his dad. Because he always wanted others to enjoy the trails, his parents and sister decided the trail head was the best place to host the event.
The money raised from the trail run benefits the Williamson Parks and Recreation Board and the Growing Warriors organization.
“People are supportive. I think they’re supportive, number one, because they know that the proceeds go to something important,” said Scott Poole’s mother, Pat Poole. “And, number two, they come because they know that a lot of people are Scott’s friends that participate. They want to just remember him. We just have people that truly enjoy running these trails.
“We just try to have a celebration of Scott’s life. He just enjoyed life. We’ve made his motto,” Poole added, “because he used this phrase quiet often, ‘Do more of what makes you happy.'”
During the event, the family unveiled a memorial in memory of Scott Poole and in honor of Christ. When Poole passed, his graduating class starting raising money for the memorial and was able to purchase it this year.
