Governor names new Pike magistrate

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Charles Compton, of Pikeville, to the position of Magistrate for the Second District of Pike County, replacing Vernon “Chick” Johnson, who recently passed away.

“I am sincerely humbled by the trust Gov. Bevin has placed in me to finish out the term of the Honorable Chick Johnson,” Compton said. “Chick was a friend and much-loved community servant who will be sorely missed.”

In addition to being a nearly lifelong resident of Pike County, Compton has been the owner and operator of Shelby Valley Auto Sales for 39 years and is an active member of the community. He is a graduate of the former Virgie High School and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from Pikeville College.

Compton has been married to his wife, Bobbie, for 46 years. They have two children, Brandi and Frankie, and four grandchildren.

Compton’s appointment takes effect immediately and he shall serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
