Hawks Edge Owsley County to Stay Hot Early in Season

The Pike County Central Hawks kept their early-season momentum rolling Tuesday night, edging Owsley County 61–59 on the road.

For the second straight game, the Hawks finished with three players in double figures. Colton Ratliff led the way with 15 points, shooting 70 percent from the field and 50 percent from three. He now has 32 points on the season.

William Rowe followed with 14 points, shooting 31.6 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. Rowe’s season total moves to 34.

Zach Thacker added 11 points, hitting 55.6 percent from the field and 25 percent from long range. Thacker’s season tally now sits at 18.

Owsley County was led by sophomore Jarred Napier, who finished with 21 points in the loss.

Defensively, the Hawks held strong. Owen Bowman led the rebounding effort with 8 boards, while Bobby Biliter added 5 rebounds of his own.

Pike Central will return home Friday to host Breathitt County in the D. J. Begley Boys Basketball Classic, an event featuring several area teams.

In other boys basketball action Tuesday night, Perry Central topped Letcher Central 83–77, Oneida Baptist Institute defeated Prestonsburg 84–62 in the Larry Gritton Sr. Classic, and Phelps edged Betsy Layne 72–71 in a nail-biter.
