HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks make it two straight

Pike County Central started fast against June Buchanan and went on to score a 69-34 win in a game played at the Hawks Nest on Saturday.

Emalie Tackett led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points as Central won its second straight game. Hannah May finished with 15 while Allie Spears added nine.

Pikeville fell behind in the early going and the deficit was too much to overcome as the Lady Panthers lost to power Boyd County, 81-58, in the Boyd County Roundball Classic played on Saturday.

Kenzie Maynard paced the Lady Panthers, now 6-2, with 18 points. Trinity Rowe tallied 12 while Kylie Hall had 10. Emma Ratliff and Kristen Whited chipped in eight each.

Shelby Valley battled one of the state’s top programs down to the wire before falling to undefeated Bethlehem, 74-68, in a battle at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Saturday.

Kentucky commit Cassidy Rowe had 23 points and 10 assists as the Lady Kats dropped to 5-3.Alyssa Elswick followed with 20 points and 12 rebounds as both recorded a double-double. Lacy Johnson chipped in nine.

Pike Central snapped a six-game losing streak as the Lady Hawks beat Magoffin County, 46-38, in a game played in Salyersville on Friday night.

Hannah May tossed in 15 points to lead the Lady Hawks. Emalie Tackett followed with 11 and Allie Spears added eight.

Angel Mullis led all scorers for the Lady Hornets (2-5) with 20 points Karah Lafferty followed with 15.

Lawrence County standout Kensley Feltner recorded a triple-double to power the Lady Bulldogs to an 84-54 win over Prestonsburg in a game played at the Dawg House on Friday night.

Feltner had 27 points, 14 rebounds and dished out 12 assists as Lawrence County moved to 7-1. She also had six steals and two blocks. Sophie Adkins added 21 points, including six three-point goals,  while Allie Webb hit for 13 points and Kyleah Ward finished with eight.

Faith Lazar paced the Lady Blackcats (5-3) with 22 points. Alivia Slone added nine and Maggie Nelson had eight.
