HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Pike Central kicks West Carter in opener

Pike Central’s defense held West Carter to just 10 points as the Hawks opened the season with a 20-10 win at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.

Quarterback Jamere Knuckles passed for one score and running back Cameron Flannery ran 18 yards for the game’s first points. Knuckles also ran for 96 yards on 15 attempts.

Freshman placekicker Steven Gonzales booted a pair of 37-yard field goals, including one with under four minutes left to seal the win.

The Hawks will return to action on Friday night against Martin County (1-0) in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry. Kickoff is 6 pm.
