HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Shelby Valley knocks off Martin County

Shelby Valley overcame an early deficit to defeat Martin County, 16-7, in a defensive struggle played at Hobart Clay Johnson Field on Friday night.

Cardinal quarterback Jackson Miller scored on a two-yard run with less than five minutes to play in in opening quarter. Dray Duff’s PAT kick made it 7-0.

Shelby Valley grabbed the lead for good on Brady Bentley’s nine-yard TD pass from quarterback Russ Osborne. He then passed to Jonah Bartley to make it 8-7.

Osborne capped the scoring with a two-yard run with 1:10 to play in the half. Osborne ran in the two-point conversion.

Both teams are back in action on Friday night as the Cardinals visit Paintsville (1-2) and the Wildcats hit the road for Middlesboro (2-1). Both game are set for 7:30 pm.
