The watchful eye of a local deputy fire chief may have saved a home from being destroyed by fire.
It happened Wednesday morning when Deputy Chief Brian Jeffiers was driving on Kentucky Route 1559 in Johnson County when he noticed smoke coming from a home just off U.S. 23.
Jeffiers investigated the smoke and found the house was on fire, quickly notifying dispatch.
Crews from W.R. Castle Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and entered the home to find the fire in the wall near the breaker box.
They were able to contain the fire to a small area, but the home did sustain significant smoke damage.
No one was home at the time of the fire and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
