A healthcare worker separated from her daughter during the coronavirus pandemic received a heartfelt tribute from her child.
Christina McCoy, an employee at Pikeville Medical Center, tells Mountain Top News that she has been separated from her daughter since late last month as she continues to work at the hospital. She says the separation has been difficult on each of them, causing heartache and tears for both.
“My 10-year-old daughter, Khloe Mullins, has been staying with my mother and father for the past two weeks because I work at the hospital and I don’t want to risk bringing something in on them or her,” Christina says. “She’s really been having a hard time because before this, she never stayed away from me.”
Christina says Thursday was particularly difficult for Khloe, leaving her in tears missing her mom.
“On my lunch break … I had to ‘mom’ talk her back to being okay,” she says.
But Khloe mustered up all of her bravery and did something that touched her mother’s heart and brought her to tears.
Khloe drew a picture on graph paper of a scrub top with a message of admiration for her mom and those working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I love all of you,” Khloe wrote, calling them superheroes.
The picture prompted “Tears in my eyes, but a smile on my face and heart,” Christina says.
