Prestonsburg, KY — A Thanksgiving dinner turned violent in Floyd County after an infant was allegedly stabbed and the mother arrested. According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police at the Pikeville Post received a call regarding a stabbing in the city of Prestonsburg. A Trooper met with Prestonsburg Police Officers and was informed the infant had been transported by EMS to Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center. Prestonsburg Police had the mother, 38-year-old Katherine Stepp of Tomahawk detained on a warrant. After the warrant was confirmed, the Trooper attempted to place Stepp in his cruiser when Stepp became combative and started kicking the windows inside the cruiser and screaming. During the investigation, several family members indicated that Stepp and her boyfriend Vondy Adam Jude arrived for dinner intoxicated. Family members also stated that Stepp got the infant and took him outside to Jude where Jude was seen rubbing something on the infant’s face. Troopers wrote in the citation that Stepp retrieved the infant from Jude and began yelling for everyone to stay back and said everyone was trying to kill her baby. It was then someone notice blood coming from the infant’s leg. Stepp was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Assault, 4th degree child abuse, Resisting arrest, Public Intoxication of a controlled substance and Assault 1st degree. Jude was not arrested at the scene however charges may be pending against him. The case remains under investigation. The infant’s condition has not been released.
