Jenkins Schools to seek new superintendent

JENKINS, Ky. — Jenkins Independent Schools will soon begin the search for a new superintendent.

The Mountain Eagle newspaper in Letcher County is reporting that the Jenkins Independent Schools Board of Education has declined to renew the contract for current Superintendent Mike Genton, who has served the district since being hired in 2016. The decision was made after a closed session held during the board’s April 28 meeting.

The board plans has authorized its attorney to begin the process of conducting a search for a new superintendent.

According to the newspaper, the board plans to meet again tonight, Wednesday, May 6, to further discuss the matter.
