Raven, Ky.–It began just before 1 o’clock this afternoon when Kentucky State Police attempted a traffic stop in KY 15 in the Isom area of Letcher County. The suspect refused to stop and a chase ensued.
“The vehicles traveled from Isom into Knott County through the Red Fox community on KY 15 ultimately turning on 160 and then 899 and ended up in the Raven community of Knott County, which is close to Pippa Passes and Alice Lloyd College. Spike strips were used on 160 at some point during the pursuit. It actually deflated one of the front tires of the vehicle, but the driver continued on for quite a distance. The vehicle then turned onto what was once an ICG coal haul road where the vehicles came to a stop. Officers encountered the driver who had exited the vehicle and through that situation the officers then pulled their issued firearms and fired upon this individual who was struck, ending the conflict. Fortunately, this individual did not receive any life threatening injuries.”
The name of the suspect has not yet been released. EKB News will continue to bring you updates on this story as they become available.
