Lady Blackcats edge Magoffin County behind Howard double double

The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats picked up a close road win Monday night, edging Magoffin County 49-46.

Prestonsburg had one player reach double figure scoring on the night, and it came with a double double performance from senior Allison Howard. Howard finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The senior now has 60 points on the season, averaging 10 per game. She also has 38 rebounds through six games, the second most on the team, averaging just over six boards per contest. Howard shot 27.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from three point range and went 9 for 10 from the free throw line.

As a team, Prestonsburg shot 24.6 percent from the field, 16.7 percent from three point range and 81.8 percent from the line. The Lady Blackcats came away with 40 total rebounds.

Individual statistics for Magoffin County were not available on the KHSAA website at press time.

With the win, Prestonsburg improves to 4-2 on the season. Magoffin County drops to 1-3.

Prestonsburg will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 20 when they face Madison Central at Lexington Christian Academy as part of the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic. That game is scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. start.

Magoffin County will return to the court tonight, Dec. 17 when they travel to Elliott County for a 6 p.m. tip.
