Morehead, Ky.–Pike County native Jasmine Wilson and her roommates who live off campus woke Saturday to find racial slurs and symbols spray painted on their house. In a joint investigation, the city and University quickly released a statement condemning the acts.
“I couldn’t reiterate the strong, strong condemnation of that kind of behavior in our community. We’ve been a long standing diverse community with the university and with all the different types of industry we have. We’ve got folks from all over the nation, state, and of course all over the world so were kind of a melting pot here as a hub for 7 or 8 counties. It’s been a really good outpouring of support for these young ladies and also outrage and hoping to find the folks that did this because this is not the Morehead I know, this is my hometown. “
EKB News spoke with Wilson’s mother, Brunetta Eskridge, who says, “This has been a traumatic ordeal for my daughter and her roommates. We as parents are pleased with the response from Morehead State University and from Mayor Trent. It’s hard enough to send your children into this big world and things like this make it tougher. We just ask for continued prayers.”
A public forum will be held from 3-4:30pm at the Button Autitorium on the Morehead Campus where Mayor Trent and a panel of University officials will be available to answer any questions and address any concerns.
