Logan man charged with strangulation, attempted sexual assault

LOGAN, W.Va. — A Logan County man on sexual assault charges, after a woman reported he came into her home and attacked her.

The victim told police that 64-year-old James Earl Ellis entered her apartment, held her in a chair by her throat, and began trying to sexually assault her. The woman told police she resisted by telling him to stop and screaming. She was finally able to get away by clawing at his throat with her hands.

Police found Ellis sitting outside the woman’s apartment. He was arrested and charged with attempted sexual assault and strangulation. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and to collect evidence.
