PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Louisville man is facing a felony assault charge, following a stabbing at a Floyd County gas station.

Prestonsburg Police were called to Skeans Marathon on U.S. 23 in Prestonsburg shortly before 4:30 Friday afternoon. When they arrived, they found a man with a stab wound in his neck. He was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted for further treatment.

The suspect in the case, identified as Wesley Gatlin, 36, had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

A little over three hours later, deputies were called to an altercation at the Alpike Motel and found Gatlin there. The deputies contacted city police, and Gatlin was arrested by Prestonsburg Police Det. Dennis Hutchinson.

Gatlin has now been charged with first-degree assault, which carries a potential sentence of 10-to-20 years in prison, if he is convicted.

Hutchinson is continuing to investigate the incident.
