Manhunt ends for third Letcher murder suspect

The third person charged in connection with the murder of a Letcher County man has been apprehended.

Clarence Russell Brown

Kentucky State Police Trooper Mike Burton was patrolling in the Dry Fork community of Letcher County observing for Clarence Russell Brown, 33, of Neon, after KSP Post 13 dispatchers received several calls from concerned citizens advising that Brown may be in the area.  Tpr. Burton located Brown just before 7 p.m., as he was walking on Little Dry Creek Road, and took him into custody without incident.

An arrest warrant was executed on Brown and he was lodged in the Letcher County Detention Center, charged with one count each of murder and tampering with physical evidence.

The arrest is just the latest development in a whirlwind investigation. Police began a missing person’s investigation April 30, after family members of Ricky Allen Gibson, 44, of Jackhorn, reported that he hadn’t been seen for several days. Last Thursday, his body was found over a hillside along Haymond Hill Road.

At that time, Clifford Caudill, 38, of Neon, and Dedra Keathley, 50, of Pikeville, were arrested. Along with with Brown, they are each charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.
