MARTIN COUNTY – The Martin County water system has long lingered with problems in its ability to supply a consistent source of clean water to its customers. Now, the district is receiving an infusion of grant money to get it running properly. Martin County Water District had already received a 1-point-2 million dollar commitment from the Appalachian Regional Commission to begin repairs. On Saturday, Congressman Hal Rogers and Governor Matt Bevin announced 3-point-4 million dollars in additional funding. The new funding will go toward installing a secondary water intake on the Tug Fork, upgrading the Crum Reservoir dam, water lines and other improvements, and installing a monitoring system to allow water plant operators to keep an eye on tanks, pump stations and control valves. Rogers and Bevin say the improvements will improve water quality and make outages less likely.
