Martin County Water sued for unpaid bills

INEZ, Ky. — A New Jersey company that provides products and services to water systems is suing the Martin County Water District in federal court, over unpaid bills dating back nearly three years.

Xylem Dewatering Solutions claims Martin County came to them in October 2018, after its pumps that pull water from the Tug Fork failed. The company provided rental pumps and equipment so that the utility could continue serving customers while its pumps were repaired.

But despite continuing to use Xylem until August 2019, the company says Martin County has not made the first payment on its bills. The company also claims Martin County damaged some of its equipment.

The lawsuit seeks to force the utility to pay the nearly $94,000 for unpaid bills and damaged equipment, with interest, as well as legal fees and other costs.

Martin County Water has 21 days to respond to the complaint.
