PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Lumberjacks from Michigan treated hillbillies to some entertainment, Friday, during the Great Lakes Timber Show in downtown Pikeville.
The show featured chainsaw carving, axe throwing, wood chopping, one and two-man crosscut sawing, modified chainsawing and log rolling.
“We’re here to show what went on the days of yesteryear in the woods and what goes on in modern woods today,” said lumberjack actor Zach Ison.
Ison says he enjoys the entire show, but there’s one thing in particular he enjoys most.
“My favorite part is making people laugh. I mean, I enjoy the different parts of the show, the crosscut sawing, the chopping, I enjoy talking about the old tools. But I like it when kids have fun and enjoy what we are doing.”
This is the first year the Great Lakes Timber Show has traveled to Hillbilly Days. Ison says the festival holds a special place in his heart.
“It’s special for me because I’m a Mason. This is put on by the Shriner’s. To be a Shriner, you have to be a Mason.”
The Great Lakes Timber Show hosts about 50 shows per year.
