JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Tragic news in the search for a missing North Carolina toddler, as authorities have made an arrest in the case after uncovering evidence that she is dead.

Authorities have been searching for 3-year-old Mariah Woods, after she disappeared from her home nearly a week ago. The case has attracted particular attention locally, as much of the girl’s extended family lives in Floyd County.

This morning, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and FBI announced that Earl Kimrey, 32, was arrested last night in connection with the girl’s disappearance and presumed death. Kimrey is the live-in boyfriend of Mariah’s mother, Kristy Woods.
Kimrey faces charges of concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property. Additional charges are pending. He is being held on a $1,010,000 bond.
Police say they determined that Mariah had died, based on evidence collected in the case. Her body has still not been located at this time.
For authorities, the case now shifts to an effort to recover Mariah’s body.
