‘Munroe’ to retire from Ky. Opry next month

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — For 30 years, Fred Goble’s comedic character “Munroe” has been a fan favorite during performances of the Kentucky Opry.

Now, Goble is hanging up his trademark bird-festooned ball cap and star-spangled vest, following one last show next month.

The retirement show, “A Night for Munroe,” will be held Saturday, June 19, at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg.

Afterwards, the Kentucky Opry will continue with its 2021 season through July.
