PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Floyd County man wanted by police now faces a charge of attempting to murder a police officer, after he allegedly tried to run over one of the officers trying to arrest him.
Prestonsburg Police had been looking for Tommy Shepherd, of David, when they got a tip early Thursday morning that he was in Prestonsburg with a gun and a large amount of drugs.
Police spotted the car in which Shepherd was a passenger, but it sped away. Shepherd was not driving but allegedly forced the driver to flee.
When the driver finally stopped for police and got out, Shepherd allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to run over Patrolman Zach Niece, hitting Niece’s patrol car in the process.
The car fled to David where it stopped at a home and Shepherd ran away.
He was quickly arrested.
Shepherd is now facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, assault, wanton endangerment and fleeing police.
