New COVID-19 cases confirmed in Pike, including county’s first ‘probable’ cases

The Pike County Health Department is reporting several new cases of COVID-19 in the county, along with its first “probable” cases.

Pike County Health Department Director Tammy Riley confirmed four new COVID-19 cases Tuesday afternoon. She said among the cases, two are confirmed and two are “probable.”

The confirmed cases include a 32-year-old female and a 68-year-old male. The 68-year-old male is hospitalized. The probable cases include a 41-year-old female and a 53-year-old male.

Riley said the “probable” cases are based upon bloodwork antibody testing. The “confirmed” cases are lab-confirmed, she said. “Probable” cases, she said, are treated in the same manner as lab-confirmed cases and patients are asked to isolate themselves.

The new cases bring Pike County’s total COVID-19 cases to 17. The county has experienced two deaths as a result of COVID-19. Riley said most of the county’s COVID-19 patients have recovered.
