A new dock was installed Wednesday in a lake in Letcher County, and more additions are being planned.
Fish Pond Lake’s new boat dock was installed Wednesday morning in the area of the former Boy Scout camp, giving Fish Pond a dock at both ends of lake. Letcher Judge-Executive Jim Ward said the new dock, which was constructed by students at the Letcher County Area Technology Center and funded by the Letcher County Conservation District, gives one of the county’s most scenic areas yet another tool to attract visitors.
Ward said he anticipates even more amenities coming to Fish Pond in the new future.
Ward said he hopes to eventually construct cabins at Fish Pond Lake. He also said he hopes a general store can be opened in the area of the lake.
Ward called Fish Pond Lake one of the county’s most important tourism and recreational assets. He complimented the conservation district and the county’s vocational school students for their efforts in making the new dock a reality.
Fish Pond Lake is located near Jenkins off U.S. 119 at Payne Gap.
