New Pike prosecutors sworn in

Two new prosecutors were sworn in Monday in Pike County.

Melissa Goodman, who has served over the last 12 years in the public defender’s office, and Don Smith, formerly of Pruitt and de Bourbon Law Firm in Pikeville, were sworn in by Pike Circuit Judge Eddy Coleman. The new prosecutors say they are looking forward to serving in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, both under outgoing Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Bartley and incoming Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Slone.

Goodman and Smith will fill two open positions in the Pike Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office left by the retirements of former assistant prosecutors Ron and Elizabeth Burchette. The new prosecutors tenure officially began Saturday.
