Paving on Phelps Mountain starts Monday, May 11

Paving is scheduled to start Monday, May 11, on a section of Ky. 632 in Pike County.

According to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway District 12, work from mile point 6.9 to 8.3 (Phelps Mountain) should take about a week, depending on weather. The District 12 Phelps Maintenance Garage is located within the area where the work will be conducted. The road varies from two to four lanes in this area. The work zone is from one foot of the mountain to the other foot.

According to Highway District 12, signs were set on Wednesday, May 6 and a traffic control pilot truck will be in place to direct traffic once work begins. The road will not be shut down; however, there will be lane closures.

Motorists should pay attention when they come upon this work zone. According to Highway District 12, traffic will be reduced to one lane at times, so reduced speed will be necessary to safely travel through the area.
