PHELPS, Ky. – Phelps High School’s basketball standout Tyler Weddington is heads and shoulders above all other players in rebounding statewide, with his average of 16 rebounds a game leading players across the commonwealth – four more a game than second-place Foundation Christian Academy’s Logan Nix.
Now he’s making headlines in scouting reports such as Kevin Moses’ self-named blog kevinmosesscouting.com.
In his post, “Kentucky’s Rebounding King: Power, Production, and Purpose,” Moses touts Weddington as more than a one-season wonder.
“The numbers don’t lie. Tyler is averaging 29.6 points, 16.8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks per game, ranking as the #1 rebounder in Kentucky and the #3 scorer statewide,” writes Moses. “He was also the top rebounder in Kentucky last season, proving that this dominance on the boards is not a one-year wonder but a consistent standard.”
At forward, small forward, and occasionally playing center for the Hornets, Weddington has accumulated stats that are simply jaw-dropping.
In a game again Belfry in February, he recorded a season-high 51 points and 20 rebounds. And those kinds of games happen more often than not. Going back to the previous season, Weddington rode a hot streak, grabbing nine or more rebounds in 40 consecutive games.
With stats this impressive, Moses said he wouldn’t be surprised to see Weddington rise to the next level.
“He projects as a strong impact player at the next level,” said Moses. “Continued skill development and exposure will position him to draw increasing college attention.”
