Pikeville, Ky.–Several proclamations were on the agenda at last night’s Pikeville City Commission Meeting. Proclamations recognizing National diabetes awareness Month, National Hospice Month and a proclamation for the Pikeville High School boys and girls Cross Country teams for their accomplishments in the 2017 season. The girls qualified for the state cross country meet for the first time in ten years and the boys won the region cross country meet for the first time since 2005.
“It is a huge honor for our kids to have this time set aside for them to be honored at a City Commission meeting. We are excited about their accomplishments and the fact that they went to the state meet and performed well, but for the people in our town to see and for it to be highlighted to those people was really an honor for us to be here today. They worked in the off season and they worked hard all season, really going above and beyond anything I asked them to do. The girls started the season and realized they had a shot to qualify for the state meet and they really worked hard and accomplished that goal. It was all about them and what they decided they were going to put their mind to and it was exciting to watch.”
Each athlete received a copy of the proclamation along with a $25 dollar gift card for Texas Roadhouse in Pikeville.
