VIRGIE, Ky. – A house fire Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a Pike County man. Just before 3:30pm, the Shelby Valley Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire just off Long Fork Road in the Virgie community of Pike County. Upon arrival, firefighters were told the owner of the home, 85 year old Andy Johnson, had not made it out of the house. Crews from all three Shelby Valley Fire Stations fought the blaze for several hours.
Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts confirmed to EKB News that Johnson’s body was discovered Tuesday night and has been transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for further investigation. The fire is under investigation by Kentucky State Police and the state fire marshal’s office.
