Pike Jailer tenders resignation

resign-Freddie LewisPike County Jailer Freddie Lewis has tendered his resignation from office.

Lewis told EKB News that he tendered his resignation on Wednesday, and it will become effective November 1. Lewis said a combination of health issues and the potential for other avenues of public service prompted the resignation, which he’d been considering for some time.

Pike Deputy Judge-Executive Brian Morris has been appointed as the new Pike County jailer, effective upon Lewis’ resignation becoming official. Morris said he plans to resign as deputy judge-executive in order to take the jailer’s position.

Lewis said he appreciates the opportunity he’s had to serve as jailer, and he plans to meet with jail staff Thursday morning to discuss the resignation.
