Pike man arrested after argument with woman ends with gunfire

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man is in jail, after police say he fired a gun at a woman who was fleeing his home.

A woman called police Sunday evening to report that Kameron Hattaway, 24, had fired a gun at her as she drove away from his house.

The woman and Hattaway told police different stories about what led up to the shooting.

The woman said she went to visit Hattaway, who she had been seeing on and off for two years, when the two began arguing. The woman said she grabbed a container of marijuana and ran outside, where her father way waiting for her in a car with her two children. As they drove away, the woman said Hattaway ran outside and fired a gun at their truck, hitting it once but not injuring anyone.

Hattaway agreed that the two began arguing, but said the woman went into the kitchen, rifled through some things on the counter and ran outside. He said when he went into the kitchen and saw that his wallet had been moved, so he chased after her and fired one shot, telling police he thought he was within his rights to defend his property. He told police he later determined that $200 was missing from the wallet.

Police canvassed the apartment building and were told by three residents that multiple gunshots were fired.

Hattaway was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, a felony punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison.
