A local resident was allegedly targeted by a scammer promising concert tickets.

The Pikeville Police Department received a report this week from a local resident stating she had been contacted through Facebook by a person claiming to be associated with Country Musician Brantley Gilbert, who is scheduled to perform in Pikeville during this year’s Hillbilly Days celebration. Pikeville 911-Public Safety Director Paul Maynard said the person offered tickets to the alleged victim, but then asked for a suspect form of payment to complete the transaction.

Maynard said anyone using any form of social media should be aware that scammers could target them at any time. He said anyone who believes they may be the target of scammers should cease communication with the other party, and under no circumstance, share personal or banking information.
