Police in Johnson County are investigating following a home invasion and the death of the alleged perpetrator.
The situation happened just before noon Friday on Chet Tackett Hollow in the Boons Camp community of Johnson County. According to a statement from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller reported that 36-year-old Andrew Dusty Harless, of Boons Camp, forced his way into a residence and assaulted another man. The caller said he believed Harless was “high on meth” during the attack.
Harless allegedly struck the alleged victim in the head, resulting in a laceration.
The statement said Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Terry Tussey arrived at the scene and found Harless lying unresponsive on the blacktop after being chased down the road by two of Harless’ own family members, who were concerned he may overdose. Harless was examined by EMS, and was eventually pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County Coroner’s office.
Harless had been under indictment by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for manufacturing methamphetamine, and had fled multiple attempts by law enforcement to arrest him. The statemenet from the Johonson County Sheriff’s Office said Harless’ alleged victim was examined, but did not seek immediate treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by Johnson County Deputy Tim Clark.
