Police crack down on drug trafficking

South Williamson, WV: A West Virginia man was arrested over the weekend after police allegedly found him in possession of several narcotics, including crack cocaine. It happened Saturday in South Williamson. 26-year-old Joseph Marcum, of East 7th Street in Williamson was arrested in the area of the Sweet Dreams motel. According to court documents, Kentucky State Police had been conducting patrols in the area and made contact with Marcum, who appeared intoxicated. Troopers allegedly found him in possession of 80 pills packaged for sale, and also a rock of crack cocaine. Marcum allegedly admitted the pills were his, but denied knowledge of the crack cocaine which was found in his wallet. He was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and third-degree trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, and remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
