Police find fleeing suspect hiding under porch

SHELBIANA, Ky. (MTN) — A Pike County man was arrested after he fled police during a traffic stop.

According to the arrest citation, Kentucky State Police Trooper Newsom observed a Toyota pickup truck traveling on Greasy Creek Road without a visible rear license plate and failed to properly signal. Newsom says after conducting a traffic stop, the suspect exited the drivers side door and fled on foot around a nearby residence.

After a brief foot chase, the subject, Jonathan Holstein, 43 of Pike County, was found underneath the porch of a Greasy Creek residence. The citation says that Trooper Newsom gave verbal commands to exit underneath the porch, in which Holstein complied and stated that he was not going to jail as he started to walk up the stairs of the porch.

Trooper Newsom says that he was able to grab onto the subject to place handcuffs on him. Newsome says that he could smell a strong odor of Marijuana coming from Holstein and that he had bloodshot eyes and slurring lethargic speech.

The citation continues to say that a plastic bag of green, leafy substance was found in the subject’s pant pocket along with a pack of rolling papers.

After returning to Holstein’s vehicle, Trooper Newsom says that he observed a firearm in plain view lying in the passenger seat, which was identified as a 32.SW revolver.

Additionally, dispatch advised Trooper Newsom that Holstein was driving on a suspended license and was a convicted felon.

Holstein was booked for numerous charges including fleeing from police on-foot, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, driving on a suspended license and was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
