PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Prestonsburg Police believe they have solved a rash of recent thefts, after arresting a man who they say had a stolen handgun in his possession.

Police had been investigating a series of car break-in, burglary and prowler complaints in the Lancer neighborhood. Items taken in the spree included tools, guitars and a .44 caliber handgun.

Officers then zeroed in on 26-year-old Nicholas Burkett, after receiving a report he allegedly attempted to sell a stolen gun. When police tracked him down, they found the gun and other stolen items.

Burkett was arrested and charged with felony theft of a firearm, with other charges pending.

He was also arrested on felony shoplifting charges last month, for allegedly stealing three iPhones from Walmart.

Police are currently cataloging the recovered items so that they can be returned to their owners.
